I would like to share with you a few photos and a video from this year’s Tokyo Game Show in that was held in Makuhari Messe, Japan. After last year’s show (TGS’12) my expectations were not super high, as I was on the way to the venue. TGS 2012 was mostly aimed at mobile gaming which, personally, is not my pair of shoes. What is worth mentioning is the large amount of people moving toward the exhibition halls from the station. Nevertheless, the atmosphere was very good and friendly. Something I could hardly believe at first! After a 10-minute walk from the station, I reached a checkpoint where you need to show your belongings to a staff member/security. Then it is time to wave your tickets at the staff members and we are in..
When I looked at the map of the place, I had the impression that it was a really big event and one day might not be enough to see everything that interested me. In reality, these 9 exhibition halls are not as big as one would think, and the only thing that might prevent you from seeing everything or spending sufficient amount of time in your favorite areas, might be people. There is really a lot of game fans visiting during the public days, so I recommend taking some patience with you when you will be visiting Makuhari Messe. The thing I am pleased with is the fact that I could see Shinji Mikami (the father of Resident Evil), who presented his new game, ‘Psycho Break’ aka ‘The Evil Within’ during a small show. I waited 60 minutes in a line to get an entry pass for the presentation. The speech was OK, but the video itself..hmm let me just say that YouTube offers better quality videos.. it was rather a disappointment. |
Moving on, Microsoft’s stand with graciously exposed XBOX One offered some attractions, such as looking at three Japanese girls playing a game called Rocksmith. They did pretty good. The big titan from the older brother of Xbox 360′s game exclusive – Titan Fall, was also making its appearance.
There's a short video.. sorry for the shaky special effects!

Square-Enix did not demonstrate anything that I had not seen in the news or trailers. My personal best was Thief and Dragon Quest. While checking the map, my attention got drawn to a small area where movies where screened. I expected short trailers or game previews – nothing special to be honest, but to my big surprise three full time movies were shown! When I got there, I could watch the last 30 minutes of the latest Silent Hill movie. |
After checking the glass case with coveted PS4 inside I decided that it was about time to head back home. In general, I think it was a much better event than last year, and now I am looking forward to the one with 2014 in the title, as it will bring some more news and fresh software for Playstation4, Microsoft and Nintendo.
Cheers!
